In India candidates have many top options when it comes to Management entrance exams like CAT, XAT, MAT, SNAP, IBSAT, and CMAT even different Indian states and universities have their own top state-level MBA entrance exams like KMAT and GMAT, MAH-CET, AP ICET, TS ICET, OJEE, MAT, ATMA, etc. The most famous MBA entrance exam is the Common Admission Test (CAT) which will be conducted on November 24 this year and the notification for the same was released last week. MBA aspirants have a lot of options for exams and they can select the one management entrance exam that is convenient for them and accepted by the MBA college they want to get into.
MBA Entrance Requirements
- Candidate should have Bachelor’s Degree with 50% (45% for SC/ST/PwD) marks from any recognized University.
- Candidates need to qualify for any of the recognized management admission tests conducted by a university or organization.

1. CAT Exam
The Common Admission Test (CAT) is India’s most prestigious national-level management entrance exam which allows aspirants to get into top Indian management institutes. CAT is the biggest and most popular Management entrance test in the country as it also gives candidates a chance to get into IIMs. This Test is conducted by different Indian institutes of Management on a rotational basis.
2. XAT Exam
Xavier Aptitude Test or XAT is conducted by Xavier School of Management, Jamshedpur which is a national-level management entrance exam for admission to MBA/PGDM programs. The score of this exam is also accepted by 10 other XAMI member colleges, also by some over 1,000 Business -schools for admission to their post-graduate management programmes such as MBA, PGDM and Executive MBA.
3. MAT TEST
Management Aptitude Test (MAT) is conducted by the All-India Management Association (AIMA) in India since 1998. A score on this exam is used to get admission to Master of Business Administration (MBA) programs and other management-related programs in over 600 business schools all over India. The Ministry of Human Resource Development approved this exam in 2003.
4. CMAT TEST
Common Management Admission Test (CMAT) is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for admission into MBA/Post Graduate Diploma in Management courses. Before NTA it was conducted by AICTE. The NTA took over the exam in 2019.
Common Management Admission Test (CMAT) is the third most popular Management entrance exam in India after CAT and XAT. On an average about 70,000 candidates appear for this test every year. Over 1,300 Business schools in India accept CMAT scores including government and private which includes some famous colleges like Great Lakes Institute of Management, JBIMS and others.
5. AP ICET
Andhra Pradesh Integrated Common Entrance Test (AP ICET) is a state-level entrance examination for MBA and MCA courses. Candidates take this exam to get admission in the state funded colleges and universities of Andhra Pradesh. This test is conducted by Sri Krishnadevaraya University on behalf of the Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE).
6. IBSAT
IBSAT is an entrance exam which is for admission to MBA/PGPM programmes and is conducted by ICFAI Foundation for Higher Education (deemed to be University). IBSAT scores are accepted by nine ICFAI Business Schools (IBS), which are IBS Hyderabad, IBS Mumbai, IBS Bengaluru, IBS Pune, IBS Gurgaon, IBS Kolkata, IBS Ahmedabad, IBS Jaipur, and IBS Dehradun. It is a two-hour Computer-based test (CBT) which is conducted in multiple-choice questions formats. IBSAT is conducted over a two-day window in December.
7. SNAP EXAM
SNAP exam is conducted by Symbiosis International (deemed) University or SIU for admission to MB/PGDM courses. The SNAP exam is also a computer-based test that is conducted in various Indian cities. Candidates have the option to appear for the Test three times in one academic session and the best scores among the three will be considered for admission. This exam is only for admissions into Symbiosis business schools.
8. TANCET
Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test (TANCET), is conducted by Anna University to fill Post Graduation seats for all the PG courses in Tamil Nadu colleges and universities. Some of the courses in which candidates can get admission by this test are MTech/ MArch/ ME, MBA and MCA. More than 200 colleges in Tamil Nadu accept TANCET scores for admission.
9. KMAT KERALA EXAM
KMAT Kerala is conducted for admission into various management schools across Kerala. Commissioner of Entrance Exams, Kerala conducts the KMAT exam in the Kerala state. KMAT Kerala is conducted multiple times a year so candidates can give it whenever they are ready for the exam. This exam is conducted in the computer-based test mode.
10. NMAT or NMAT by GMAC
NMAT or NMAT by GMAC is an entrance test conducted for admissions into management courses at NMIMS University and many other reputed Business Schools in India as well as abroad. Previously this exam was conducted by Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies but now GMAC has taken over the conducting authority. This test is designed to keeping the candidate’s convenience in mind. The test is conducted on a national-level and it is conducted annually during the test window of specified days.
