In governmental medical institutions in India, there are two categories for MBBS seats: the All India Quota (AIQ) and the State Quota. 15% of seats in every government medical college across the country are reserved for admission under the AIQ, which is given out based on counseling done by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC). The National Medical Commission (NMC) has released information regarding NEET 2024, revealing that there are around 706 medical colleges with about 108,915 MBBS seats.

- Tamil Nadu: The highest number, nearly 11,225 seats.
- Karnataka: Roughly 11,020 seats.
- Uttar Pradesh: About 9,253 seats.
Seat Allocation:
- 15% Quota Seats: Management done by the Medical Counseling Committee (MCC).
- 85% State Quota Seats: Management done through NEET Counseling 2024 by state authorities.
