Exam Pattern 

  1. Written Exam – The first phase of the exam, is a written test carrying 85 marks.  The exam is OMR based with 85 MCQ Questions Carrying , 1 mark each. The duration of the exam is 1 hour. The candidate is subject to negative marking of 1/4th of the total marks allotted per question. The scheme, syllabus, date and venue of the written examination is decided by the West Bengal police recruitment board. A merit list is prepared based on the marks obtained by candidates. Shortlisted candidates proceed to the next stage of selection, which is a physical measurement test. The question paper for the exam is set in 2 languages Bengali and Nepali. 

 

         

 

  Questions are distributed among four subjects including

  1. PMT – the physical measurement test is qualifying in nature. A candidate who has passed phase 1 needs to meet the height and weight standards. Chest measurement of male candidates is taken using an inch tape. 
  2. PET – candidates who qualify PMT are qualified to take part in the PET which is also qualifying in nature. It involves jumping, running, and physical activities to check the stamina and agility of the candidates
  3. Interview – the final round of selection is the interview round which carries a maximum of 15 marks. All candidates who have qualified the physical efficiency test will be called for an interview. The interview is a test of general awareness and sustainability of the candidate for public service. A candidate ability to speak read and write Bengali or Nepali language will be tested specifically during the interview 
  4. Medical Examination – a candidate who passes the interview is provisionally selected and sent for medical examination at the state government designated hospital. Here the candidate is checked based on the mental and physical standards.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Written Exam – Before applying for the post of West Bengal police constable, you must know the eligibility criteria required for the post. A candidate eligible for writing this exam, 
  • Must be a citizen of India 
  • Must not be less than 18 years of age and more than 30 years of age as on 01/01/2024.
  • The applicant must have passed madhyamik examination from the West Bengal Board of secondary education or equivalent. 
  •  The applicant must know how to speak, read and write in Bengali language. This provision however is not applicable to residents of hill subdivisions of Darjeeling and Kalimpong.

Age

The age criteria for appearing for the West Bengal constable exam is that the candidate,

  • Must not be less than 18 years of age and more than 30 years of age as on 01/01/2024. 
  • The upper age limit will be relaxable – 
  1. by 5 years in case of scheduled caste and scheduled tribe candidates, 
  2. by 3 years in case of OBC classes a and OBC classes b candidates, 
  3. by 3 years in case of a third gender person
  4.  by 5 years in case of civic volunteers/village police volunteers. 
  5. This age relaxation is also available to NVF/Home guards personnel serving in West Bengal police only as per governments existing rules. 
  6. The upper age limit will also be relaxable to ex-servicemen candidates subject to a maximum age of 40 years. 

 

Salary

Candidates who clear through the medical exam are finally appointed as constable in the West Bengal police. The basic pay offered is ₹23700 which amounts up to ₹26605 after adding the dearness allowance, house rent allowance and medical allowance
