Exam pattern –
- Written Exam – The WBP SI Is an MCQ based exam that consists of 100 questions with a total of 200 marks. EachCorrect answer Rewards you with marks but a wrong answer leads to deduction of 1/4th marks defined per question. The duration of the exam is 1.5 hours.

- PMT – the physical measurement test is qualifying in nature. A candidate who has passed phase 1 needs to meet the height and weight standards. Chest measurement of male candidates is taken using an inch tape.
- PET – candidates who qualify PMT are qualified to take part in the PET which is also qualifying in nature. It involves jumping, running, and physical activities to check the stamina and agility of the candidates
- Final combined competitive examination –This face consists of three papers. The duration of the exam is 4 hours and accounts for 200 marks.
- Paper 1 focuses on general studies and arithmetic
- paper 2 consists of English language test
- paper 3 tests you for Bengali Urdu Nepali Hindi language
- Personality test – Personality test or interview accounts for 30 marks a candidate that fulfills the criteria of the final combined competitive examination is finally called for a personality test. Selected candidates are shortlisted in the merit list

- Qualifications –
- candidate must be a citizen of India
- Candidates applying for the post of sub inspector in West Bengal police must have a Bachelor’s Degree in any stream from a recognised University.
- Must know how to read, write and speak Bengali. this criteria is not applicable to candidates belonging to subdivisions of Darjeeling and Kalimpong district
- A domicile Certificate is required for verification
- PWD candidates are not eligible for this post
